Re: Bi-PAP battery question - why is this cable SO expensive?
It's because the BiPAPs run on 24V DC, not 12V DC: Electrical - DC Voltage Source 24V (when operated with the external DC power adapter accessory) - DC Current 3.0 A maximum (That comes from here: https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/bipap-auto-biflex.html#specifications) So you'll notice the block in ...

Re: Why forever?
If you're not happy with your current treatment, then I'd suggest you see an ENT or your sleep doctor to see if they can suggest any procedures or other treatments that might be a better fit for you. You may find that you're able to stop using the CPAP using another treatment or combination of treat...

Where are you getting your distilled water from? Even WalMart's didn't leave any calcification in my humidifier.

My partner loves it freezing in the room, so I have a heated hose and an additional fleece cover on it.

Re: Whats the best sleep meds?
During college I was prescribed Sonata. It only helps you get to sleep and is in your system for about 4 hours. Worked really well for me.
I do think you should do what you can to get more sleep, but I know what it's like to end up in a funk where you just CAN'T sleep at all.

Re: Mask question
I guess my advice would be that if you are sure the pillows aren't blocked and you don't feel the swoosh, then you're just used to it.

Re: Old timer with a newbie Encore problem
You need the driver from the Encore disc, not the Mako disc. Encore doesn't offer to install it for you, and you have to dig into the contents of the disc to find it. You'll know when you've got the right driver going when inserting the smart card results in the light on the card reader going green....

Re: anyone couldn't bring AHI down (tired) despite all trials???
What is the difference between Bi-PAP and ASV? A standard Bi-PAP switches between two pressures when you breathe. One for inhale and one for exhale. The ASV includes an algorithm that attempts to determine when you are experiencing a central apnoea, and it initiates a breath for you. http://bipapau...

Re: An Intro to the Australian Health Care System
So I'll ask the question again: what total, combined percentage of your gross pay are you willing to give up for all this utopia? Gee, I didn't know Australia was a utopia... Our tax rates are here: http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.asp?doc=/content/12333.htm I'm willing to pay the rates I ...

Re: An Intro to the Australian Health Care System
it sounded more and more like there was an axe to grind with the U.S. system. If my impression was wrong, I apologize. But neither myself nor anyone I know claims that the U.S. system doesn't need to be overhauled. Sounds like you have an axe to grid with the U.S. system in the same way I do, if no...

I wanted to address this separately. How exactly was my post "anti-U.S.-system"? It wasn't meant to be.KSMike wrote:I can't help but notice how so many of the anti-U.S.-system posts originate or are propagated by people who don't live here.

Re: An Intro to the Australian Health Care System
I'm curious how many advancements in medicine originate in the profit-driven U.S. system vs. the Australian, Canadian, and other systems where profit is considered evil? Where did you get the impression that "profit is considered evil" in the Australian system? Providers are private and in business...

Re: An Intro to the Australian Health Care System
Does anyone here actually believe that? The thing that's even funnier from this side of the pond is that this already exists in the US, except replace the age assertion with "amount of money", and replace government with "insurance company". Suddenly the claims of death panels seem even more strang...

Re: An Intro to the Australian Health Care System
Oh, yeah, something else I forgot to mention. They also want to make sure that you don't get overly slogged in any particular year for health issues, so there is this thing called the Net Medical Expenses Tax Offset. (http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.asp?doc=/content/19181.htm) Quite simply...

Re: An Intro to the Australian Health Care System
But when talking about their health care system, she said it stank as when you reach a certain age, if I remember it was 55, if you have a catastrophic illness, etc. you are pretty much out of luck as they see you as "being end of life." She stated they would keep you comfortable, etc. but for exam...
