Re: Post your longest apnea events....

[Looking at the detailed data for Flow Rate, with the data view window set to 30 seconds will show you exactly how much air you moved in and out of your lungs. I use that to correlate when I have clustered events, to see how long it really was between breaths. Actually, the system has no sensors to...

Re: Post your longest apnea events....

Be careful of assumptions about what CPAP software is telling you. For ResMed software (S7, S8; uncertain about S9), ResScan quantifies data into 60 second intervals. You may have two (or more) apneas during a single 60-second period. ResScan software graphs display the latest apnea in front, and ea...

Re: Heated hose Development

You have less chance of the wire overlapping and causing problems if you don't spiral-wrap but just run the wire straight. When straight, the chance of wire overlap drops to zero. At least that's how I did mine. Plus the heated part of the 15W repti cable isn't all that long to begin with. Quite ri...

Re: Heated hose Development

While touching your tongue to a 15 watt bulb is an impressive image, it has little relevance to the Repti Heater environment. Here we are (or should be) carefully spiral-wrapping the heater wire along 6 feet of tubing, providing not a point source of heat, but rather 2.5 watts per foot, or 0.21 watt...

Re: Does the amount of air change with pressure?

What am I missing? I think that what is missing is a) a link between cause and effect, and b) an appreciation of machine measurement and estimation limitations. First, as to "flow", while ResMed's definition is correct as far as it goes, it is a bit of an understatement. As an "estimate" of airflow...

Re: Does the amount of air change with pressure?

There are at least three concepts which are often confused, and are confused in the discussion here. Imprecise words lead to imprecise thinking. VOLUME. The volume of air we inhale is determined by our lungs. Sometimes we breathe in deeper (e.g. a yawn) and sometimes less so. The "compressability" o...

Re: Pressure settings by limb movements obsevations

I know of no evidence that CPAP prevents or reduces periodic limb movements during sleep (PLMS). Rather, quite the opposite: there have been reports that PLMS can be worsened by CPAP, primarily early in the night. Your observation of decreasing PLMS may not be due to increasing the pressure, but sim...

Re: ResMed S9 How to Configure for 2 "Users" Files

..... I have set up a separate Test Data patient file in ResScan 3.11 but can't see how to select that "patient" on the S9. Do I need to use a separate SD card for each "patient?" And if I do use separate cards, will the two "patients" data co-mingle in the S9's internally stored data? I appreciate...

Re: S9 & 3.11 Can I delete data from a selected session

ResScan stores its data in files labeled yyyymmdd.rlk. I believe that if you remove or delete a particular day file from the patient folder, that day's data will be gone from ResScan's perspective. But the problem you will encounter, if the S9 works anything like the S8 I am familiar with, is that t...

Re: AHI of 0.0 is possible and sustainable but takes effort!

Why would an AHI of 10.0 be more desirable than an AHI of 0.0? An AHI of 10.0 would not be more desirable than 0.0. My point was that 0.0 is not necessarily a more desirable goal than 10.0. Diagnostic criteria for Sleep Apnea includes an AHI of over 5.0 (or without other symptoms, over 15.0). "Norm...

Re: AHI of 0.0 is possible and sustainable but takes effort!

"[An estimated, non-NPSG] AHI of 0.0 [as scored and reported by an S9 home machine] is possible [according to the way AHI is estimated and reported by an S9] and sustainable [for S9 users, according to the way the machine chooses to measure and record its own estimates] but takes effort [, though n...

The volume of the of the interface relative to the volume of your own respiratory system affects the transient response of both flow and pressure back to the ma...

Re: Experiment: FFM + Mouth Tape

But in the absence of leaks, I can't see why a FFM would yield different AHIs from a nasal mask. Pressure is pressure. And yet, it is so, as I have repeatedly documented: AutoPAP, Activa, UMFF and Mouth Taping http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37954 Respironics :: Activa, UMFF :: ResMed h...

I would recommend reading the considerations in:

Re: Why should I look at leak rate data ?

Despite quadruple agreement from some very knowledgeable and experienced posters, I would interject a note of caution. To paraphrase a comment I made in my CPAP Wiki article, "While .... leak is never desirable, care must be taken to avoid arbitrarily labeling it as terrible." Mask Leaks: http://www...
