WTF? After my CPAP, then APAP, and then BiPAP failed to fix my fatigue (i.e. I'd have to take a nap after going to get the mail), my doctor tested my B-12 levels and it was discovered I had a major deficiency. Also had low iron. Recent blood work also shows that I am deficient in vitamins D and B-1....

Gotta give the wife credit though. She shot her hubby twice in the face/head, but didn't hit the mask.

Hi. I also have Kaiser/Apria. First, you need to look at your doc's Rx. Apria will not give you an auto machine unless your rx specifically requests it. Second, I know for a fact they will do special orders. I don't use any of the standard masks because I have a small nose and they special ordered t...

I had gastric bypass on Monday. I had a tube down my throat and was also told I would be closely monitored. Everything went fine. Even had a respiratory specialist come to my room after I was awake to help set up my machine (as if I didn't know). I requested distilled water for my humidifier and she...

His mom told the coroner that he was diagnosed with OSA, but didn't use his machine. Also, a diagnosis would be in his medical charts, which a coroner would look at for COD. I don't believe a coroner could tell someone had OSA if there hadn't been a previous diagnosis.

I'm 29 and I also have night sweats. I even wake up sometimes in the middle of the night because I feel like I'm burning up. My thermostat is set to 50 AND I use fans. My doc told me it may be weight related. I'm not so sure I'd agree, but who knows. I think some people may just generate more body h...

My gastric bypass is scheduled for March 3. I was told no soda because all the carbonation and gas can make your stomach expand. Gotta remember that post-bypass a person's stomach is about the size of a shot class. Not exactly a lot of room. I have my pre-op class this afternoon and I'm gonna ask sp...

Allegedly that's what the coroner put down as COD (as per TMZ)

Sleep apnea hits the news again.

I just read on TMZ.com that rapper Pimp C (no idea who that is) apparently died as a result of a pre-existing condition of sleep apnea, combined with an elevated amounts of prescription codeine in his blood.

I'm not awake for any of it. I have an uncanny ability to fall asleep within 5-10 min. I can't even use the ramp feature because I fall asleep too quickly. According to my multiple sleep studies, including a MSLT, my sleep latency is 94% (which is really high I'm aware). Needless to say, there is ve...

Why won't my AHI go down?

I've been on CPAP, then APAP and Now BiPAP. I have my Bipap set at a min min EPAP 10, max IPAP 20, Bi-flex at 3 and PS at 8. My AHI is consistently between 4.5 and 5.5, which puts me in the mild apnea category even with my machine. I upped the max IPAP to 25, to see if I still needed a higher pressu...

According to Kaiser, I'm supposed to bring my PAP with me the day of surgery. Also, I'm already on biPAP and it's no help for the swallowing air. Nothing so far has helped prevent it.

Gastric Bypass and Aerophagia

Well, the date is finally set for my gastric bypass - March 3 (which is 4 days after I finish taking the bar exam, argh). Am excited and worried of course. A thought just occurred to me, and I was hoping fellow pap users who've had bypass may have some insight. Admittedly, I am on major brain overlo...

Has your doctor tested to see if you can even absorb the vitamin D? Apparently, deficiency can be caused if you have something that prevents you from absorbing it from your digestive tract. Also, if may indicate kidney problems, since the kidneys convert it. Just a thought....

Nothing worse than a doc that dismisses you without even listening to your entire list of symptoms before the prescribe meds. My GP and sleep doc were doing that for a while. My sleep doc finally told me that "excessive daytime sleepiness" was not in the purview of the sleep disorder/neurology dept....
