Okay to use used Bipap machine?

Post by slowmo2000 » Wed Apr 24, 2024 7:47 am

Hi all,

I've been struggling with aerophagia and CAs and have reached out to my doc to get a sleep titration study done for bilevel. This is scheduled many months out so I picked up a used Aircurve 10 from FB marketplace. I've purchased new tubing and a new a humidifier chamber, but is there anything I need to do to sterilize the machine itself?

I've read articles that seem a bit fear mongerish online about the risks of using a used machine (mold, germs, bacteria, viruses) but it's unclear to me how transmission would work if the tubing/parts are replaced. I want to be safe/thoughtful - anything else I should consider?

Thanks!

a used machine
If it were me, I would look at the general condition/cleanliness of the machine and give it a good sniff test. Was the appearance of the person I bought it from decent? Were his fingernails clean? Replace the air filter. Use the machine.

You have done more than I would do and I have bought well over a dozen "used" machines and used them without catching anything or getting sick or dying.

I suspect that most fear mongers (mongrels?) have skin in the game, i.e. sales of new machines.
The greatest danger is in not being treated--period!
